"Our desire to create a financial planning and investment platform that we would be truly proud of led my wife Deanna and I to form Precedence Private Wealth."
I grew up in Coronach, Saskatchewan, a small southern town near the U.S. border. My transcript from the University of Saskatchewan is an interesting one. It started with a focus on science, physics and chemistry with a trajectory into the medical field. But, soon after, I was pulled further toward business and finance. I understood then that this was my true passion, and I'm thankful I made the pivot I did. I began my career with an advisor career agency called Clarica and, soon afterward, developed a true love for the business. However, needing to further enhance my capabilities as an advisor, I left to join an independent investment dealer. Little did I know that this decision would help shape the firm as we know it today. After only 10 short months, this independent investment dealer was purchased by a large Canadian bank. Although, financially, it was considered an extreme success, we soon would realize the true proprietary pressures these large institutions have on Canadians. Our desire to create a financial planning and investment platform that we would be truly proud of led my wife Deanna and I to venture off to form Precedence Private Wealth. Our goal was to scratch our own itch and to create a firm we'd be honored to work with as clients -- one that is truly independent in nature with honesty and full transparency at its core. The only thing that gets me more excited than helping and influencing our amazing clients is watching my Leafs endure their struggles so that they can hopefully one day capture their ultimate prize. I am obsessed with learning, and I love everything business. In most recent years I've become fascinated in the potential to vastly broaden our reach and influence by harnessing the power of social media. It really is a truly amazing time we live in today!
"Technically, you could say I do financial planning for our clients, but financial planning takes on quite a different meaning the way we do it at Precedence."
Advising clients isn’t just about telling them which portfolio to choose in exchange for a fee; financial planning means understanding, and making a holistic plan. Together with the rest of our team, I enjoy advising and inspiring clients to make the very best decisions around their money, their taxes and lifestyles. My path into this industry came from the personal desire to learn how to invest an inheritance I received at a very young age. It then turned into wanting to learn how to grow and protect those assets while paying the least amount of tax possible! I now have a strong desire to help my clients do the same. I am fulfilled while learning about my clients and what is truly most important to them. They all have such a unique story of how they have to come to where they are today, and I love the challenge of helping them get to where they need to go! I adore my husband and beautiful family of three: two girls and a boy. We enjoy our family time at the lake. During my personal time, I volunteer in the community, workout, golf and travel. Focusing on personal development and growth is a constant work in progress, and I crave the energy I receive by trying new activities and challenges.
"Although we are normally pretty humble about what we do at Precedence, we’re actually financial superheroes."
I was born in the metropolis of Davidson, Saskatchewan, and my family lived in Elbow until I was 4 years old. We moved to a farm near Fleming, Saskatchewan, and I attended school in Moosomin. I grew up playing every organized sport available to me in small-town Saskatchewan. Hockey, baseball and golf are my favorite sports, and I still play each of those myself. My passion for sports has started to evolve as my own kids begin to play, and I'm learning how to be a coach. Spending time with my young family is where I get the most enjoyment from my personal time these days. Among other things, we enjoy doing some camping and fishing each year. I'm also currently in the early stages of learning to play the guitar, and I've started to appreciate and enjoy all types of music. I love working for Precedence. It’s nice to work with a team that’s always searching for strategies to enhance our clients’ experiences in regard to the financial aspects of their lives. Each of us love to share knowledge about our industry to ensure they make the best financial decisions for themselves and their families. We also have wonderful coffee and a fun culture in our firm on a day-to-day basis. Three quick and quirky things about me: I’m scared of snakes, but think most lizards are pretty cool; if I could only eat two foods for the rest of my life I would choose pizza and lasagna; and I’m not a morning person, but I’m usually more productive in the morning.
"I joined Precedence Private Wealth nearly ten years ago. The favourite part of my job is strategizing to help clients reduce their tax burden."
I am an investment advisor with Precedence Capital and Harbourfront Wealth Management Inc., and I'm licensed for insurance solutions. I also am currently working toward my financial planner designation. Giving back to the community is important to me. I currently volunteer with the Royal University Hospital Foundation as a member of its board of directors. I also sit as a member on the YMCA board of directors. I previously volunteered on the Nutana Community Association board of directors in several positions, including the final four years as president. I also fill minor volunteer positions with my childrens’ sports teams. I’ve coached several different sports over the last three decades, most recently helping over 400 athletes compete in marathon running events. I am an avid sports fan, but I’m happiest when I’m participating. I’ve finished more than 100 triathlons, including four Ironman events. I am an avid cyclist and a terrible golfer. Although I grew up in Regina, I am a 30-year Saskatoon resident, living in Nutana with my wife, Juliet Sarjeant, our three kids and a dog. Something unusual about me is that I do not care which way the toilet paper goes on the roller, but I can’t stand it if anyone leaves the toothpaste cap messy. Admittedly, this is a complicated scenario for any spouse to deal with.
"I am very proud to be working at Precedence Private Wealth. Brave enough to challenge the status quo, our team is always striving to be better and to do better. Complacency isn’t in our vocabulary."
I was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, and lived just outside of Conquest, Saskatchewan, in Denny. Denny consisted of our family home with a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool elevator, railroad line, a huge garden and some bee hives. I am the second oldest of six kids. At the age of 5, my mom moved us all to Saskatoon. She later met and married again and along came my brother among five sisters. Our family is very close, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My husband Tom and I have a blended family, a "mine," a "his" and two "ours." My son Keegan plays professional hockey in Europe (thank goodness for the internet), my stepson Skylar lives and works in Saskatoon and our girls are busy with everything under the sun. I enjoy cheering on my kids as they participated in cheerleading, horseback riding, swimming, volleyball, basketball, hockey, track and field, touch football, football, soccer and softball. Yupperdoodles, they have done it all! (My husband says the quirkiest thing about me is my playful vocabulary. Words such as “yupperdoodles,” “zillion,” and “kiddos" make my heart smile.) I am passionate about raising kind, brave, independent kids who love life. We also have two beautiful huskies who live in our backyard. Slade and Saige are the best of buds. I enjoy playing volleyball, running, working out, practising yoga and being active. I'm passionate about learning each and every day. After finishing a bachelor of science in kinesiology and a bachelor of arts in psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, I worked with various sporting organizations. I went back to my alma mater where I worked as an academic advisor in both Kinesiology and Psychology departments for more than 15 years. Today, I am very proud to be working at Precedence Private Wealth.
"I strive every day to lift people up and make them smile. If I can make one person feel better about themselves then I have succeeded in my goal."
Growing up, I had the average family life. Dad worked in the mines 14 days on and 7 off, and mom stayed at home while we were young. When I was a teenager, we moved to a farm and had a cattle operation. Both of my parents worked full time, ran a cattle farm and still found time for their friends and family. This is where I learned my work ethic. I have been married to a wonderful wood artist for 25 years and, together, we have three children of our own as well as eight other children we have brought into our home over the years. We spend all our spare time building our retirement home on our acreage near Pike Lake. I have been in the financial industry for 16 years working in various positions. From reception, I moved to a back-office position and entered orders, completed transfers and created databases and processes. From there, I moved back to a client-facing position obtaining my insurance and mutual fund licensing. It was in this period that I realized how important client care is to me. I made the move to Precedence Private Wealth in 2018 because Todd and Deanna have created a company where the client is the most important part. The staff is a true team that works together in harmony for the best interest of the client, and that is exactly what I'm looking for at this stage in my career. I have earned the title of “Mama T” by “mothering" staff and colleagues, and it is a nickname that has carried through to three different positions with different companies. I am proud to be the “Mama” in the group! My biggest passion is learning and personal growth. Having daughters has really taught me to lead by example when it comes to self-image and confidence.
My role is to introduce as many qualified people as possible to the way Precedence Wealth does business.
I was born and raised in the Lake Diefenbaker area at Elbow, Saskatchewan. My parents owned the local restaurant in town, and my dad was the mayor, so from an early age, I grew to love interacting with people and being a part of a community. I moved to Saskatoon in 1998 which opened doors to new opportunities: a retail meat business, a transportation firm, a financial planning firm and a construction business. After three years away from the wealth management side of things, I realized that being a part of a financial planning firm is my true calling. I'm very excited about the opportunity to join the professionals at Precedence Private Wealth. It's so nice to be a part of a team that is completely focused on giving value with no expectation of anything in return.
"The team at Precedence is big-hearted, caring and fun. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with and put up with my shenanigans and sense of humor."
I was born and raised in Regina. During the summer months we would spend time at the family cabin, and in the fall until spring I was playing water polo. I attended SIAST/ Saskpolytech where I studied accounting and met the love of my life. Sarah and I got married in 2014. I started my career in accounting with MNP in Regina and, after about a year, we moved to Warman to settle down and build a family close to where Sarah grew up. Now we have two wonderful children, Alex and Mackenzie, who bring so much joy and happiness to our lives. After a couple more tax seasons I came to the realization that accounting wasn’t where I wanted to be. My wife said I should look into finance. I started exploring that possibility and fell in love with the industry and most importantly helping people achieve their goals and ensuring they are taken care of. I met Todd and Deanna in 2017 and was blown away by how much they care and want to bring true value to their client’s lives. They were different than the majority of the industry and were more focused on coming up with unique ways to help people in all aspects of their lives and not just selling a product. I joined Precedence in the fall of 2017 and have learned so much since joining the team. I am very thankful that Todd and Deanna encourage me to grow and learn.
"There is never a dull moment in the Precedence office. Even though we work hard, jokes get thrown around and my days fly by. We also go out volunteering and celebrate our amazing team with quarterly events."
I was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, but moved to Saskatoon when I was five with my mother, father and two older brothers. I originally came from the event planning industry but realized I would rather plan parties and events for friends and family as a hobby instead. I love working at Precedence because I’m constantly learning things that I can also use in my personal finances now and in the future. I get to meet and learn so much about others in and out of province. I love to see the excitement of clients when they implement a plan to further their investments and financial growth. Some of my hobbies include puzzling (Christmas jigsaw puzzles are the best!), board games, woodworking, being outdoors and taking my pup Kenya out to play. Something a bit quirky about me is that I can be incredibly loud. My brothers typically enjoy it the most as it pushes my dad’s buttons.
Our unwavering commitment and obsession is to educate and inspire Canadians on how to MAXIMIZE their wealth.
